Sunshine Short Story Club
Sunlit green field

A reading club where members read short stories and then discuss themes, characters, style, and personal reactions.

Focuses on public-domain and freely available stories, including classic literary fiction and modern speculative or science fiction.

Organized in partnership with Sunshine Centres for Seniors and promoted as a friendly, social program for older adults.

Aimed at seniors 55+ living in Ontario (especially the Toronto area), but people beyond Toronto also participate online.

Meetings are held on Zoom, on Wednesdays in the afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, and there is no cost to join.

Sessions may include live reading aloud, pre-reading, or sometimes listening to audio versions before discussion.

Story selection and archive
The club maintains an online archive listing stories read, with word counts, brief thematic notes, and author info.

Selections range from authors like Ray Bradbury, Ernest Hemingway, and Arthur Conan Doyle to contemporary and local writers, including occasional pieces by Sunshine members themselves.

Genres include literary realism, horror, fantasy, and science fiction, often chosen for strong themes or discussion value.
