THE BIBLE REPAIRMAN
By Tim Powers (4820 Words)
Although the theme is
black magic the setting is disturbingly real.
Vickery, haunted by the ghost of his deceased daughter from a
botched exorcism, lives a marginal existence amid ghosts and occult
dealings in a world where souls are commodities. His routine shatters
when a widow hires him to rescue her living daughter, kidnapped
by a cult leader practicing voodoo-like rituals involving dybbuks
and soul-trapping. The mission forces Vickery to confront his
past sins, including the murder that tainted his soul, and seek
redemption through a perilous spiritual showdown.
